Attack on NI military base

Know it well. Im sure it was non stop helicopter din for you as its directly between Masserene and Aldergrove. Scary stuff.

It's quietened down now thankfully, tho it'll likely start up again at daybreak

I don't mind the helicoptors during the day. They give me something to watch when I'm out the back having a smoke. And the planes are much louder anyway. But at this time of night you can hear a mouse fart outside, nevermind a couple of choppers flying low-level overhead, so they get a tad annoying.

Yeah I'm sure it was mad. a lot of night flying by RAF this past week. All for Iraq deployment but they did a lot of exercises at masserene. I'm pretty interested in all things RAF but this is just sickening. I can't sleep!

I really don't see what's so hard to understand.

You made a comment about the possibility of a bad situation occuring on the doorstep of the mainland, and I made a sarcastic comment about how we'll feel sorry for yous.

You weren't expecting real sympathy from the majority of people in this thread were you?

no, I didn't mean it like that. You are still part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I meant it will be bad for all of us, puts strain on the economy which is strained enough, kills people, and is generally bad because the military start making an appearance on the streets which is never a good thing.

If you did mean the UK rather than just England or the mainland then I do apologise.

The last few hours have been a kick in the teeth for those of us old enough to remember the troubles. An awful lot here thankfully won't even remember the last of the killings.

oh I'll **** off alright *shows one finger and leaves*

Well you're sure as hell not getting an apology.

That was an idiotic comment, and went nowhere to disprove the belief that we're a bunch of bigots over here.

well that was a dreadful evening at work.
major incident plan activated, everyone pulled together and worked really well in difficult, tragic circumstances.
my thoughts are with the families of the two servicemen murdered tonight.

What does the major incident plan entail? That is if you're able to tell us.

Hopefully this is just the reaction of some rogue idiots.

I hope the other people in hospital make it through ok.

Out of interest, what is your occupation?

My thoughts too are with the families of the 2 men murdered, as are the hopes that the seriously injured men survive.

Politics of NI still a bit messy...

I mean we have paisley jr comeing out and shouting about it, even if you think hes good or bad hes making a fuss that will only end up making more problems than he hopes to put his name too.

Back on topic propperly, dissident republicans are the only ones to blame as they are the only group left caring about NI's status and not getting in on the drug dealing action (like the rest of the repulican para. groups left and all loyalist groups that still havnt gotten round to dissarming...).

Either way this isnt nice news as NI has been pretty safe and nice since iv been up here (and many years prior to that).

Oh dear, ocuk trying to "do northern ireland" again, and failing already.
OcUK failing? Don't think so, save a few who really should have stepped away from their keyboards. I, for one, appreciate the local perspective on this.

Shame all this stuff has flared up again though. NI has been outwardly quiet on the paramilitary front for long enough that I don't doubt many in mainland UK (me included) dared to believe this bit of NI history was just that - history.

major incident plan - a planned hospital response to a multiple/mass casualty incident
usually initiated in the emergency department and involves docs/nurses/porters/labs/xr/receptionists etc to gear up to dealing with multiple victims be it shooting, train crash, rta, fire etc

@Rossmac - emergency dept consultant

Nice cowardly attack by the Irish, I bet it was youngsters trying to stir up trouble, if they want a fight I am sure the British will give them one.

Which is precisely what we need to avoid. That kind of attitude will just drag us back into a conflict.

It was all going so well, damn shame that there are still a misguided minority trying to spoil things.
