Are there any 'common' pc screws that will attatch a rad directly and safely to a case? By common I mean thumbscrews, Mobo screws etc.

Most typical pc screws wont work. What you need are self tappers, sometimes used for installing fans. To install my Thermochill rad I used these NO.6 6.5MM S/TAP PAN POZI (RC). Google it.
