Attempt at overclocking not working

I tried to overclock the processor in my new computer and the clock seems to take. When the computer reboots I can see the new speed it should be running at, but when Vista tries to boot up, it displays a blue screen hardware error.

Spec is:
Asus P5N-D nForce 750i
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4

I've read up the reviews on this processor and it should easily be able to handle the 3.0GHz clock I'm trying for, but for some reason its not. I've tried it both on auto voltage and at 1.4v (as I read somewhere), but vista won't boot.

So does this look like a hardware problem or more likely to be something to do with vista ?

EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention that as soon as I take the OC off, Vista boots fine.

It was 800 after I raised the FSB because I set the memory to unlinked.
I set it back to linked and used 3:2 and it boots into Vista, but freezes pretty quickly. The 1:1 divider setting doesn't boot at all.

I also tried setting it back to 3:2 and chaging the cas latency to 5 as you have suggested but this again resulted in no post.

Okay, it looks like it could just be a problem with that FSB I was using. I lowered it to 1300 (bus speed now 325) and it seems to be OK. Just stress testing it now to see it if holds up.

Well that didn't go to well. Ran for about 5 minutes then 2 of the tests in Prime95 died due to a hardware error. There was also an alert about the +5V being too high.

Back to the drawing board

what about raising the chipset volts

What should I look to up them to ? Obviously don't want to fry anything.

1 HDD, 4 fans+cpu fan, USB mouse and keyboard.

I've been doing some more testing and I've set it at a lower clock speed again. Its now at 312 (1250 effective) giving a clock speed of 2.8ghz. Its been running Prime95 for about an hour now with now problems.
