My grandad's computer has been infected with malware posing as a anti virus system (Antivirus GT) claiming he has threats on his computer.

I removed all of the malware and trojens using malwarebytes and all of the folders, files and registrys have been removed that were associated with the program itself.

But he is left with this message whenever i request certain webpages and i cant see to get rid of it.

Anyone had or had to deal with this issue before?

Have you tried an antivirus scan?

A friend of mine recently recommended Avira's Rescue CD. Download it, run the file and it will burn a CD. Boot your Grandad's PC with the CD and follow the prompts. You can then run an offline virus scan.

If it is Windows XP or Vista you can also try Combofix.

You haven't mentioned this but have you checked the HOSTS file to see if there's any entry's that are doing that.

Glad it worked. :)

Even when you remove crapware, it can still leave behind settings etc that mess up your computer. The hosts file is usually a prime example, as demonix suggested above.
