So I've got several encoded blurays that are at 23.9fps (or whatever bluray is exactly!) and when playing with ATV2 they noticeable judder (ATV2 appears to be outputting at 60hz).

These encodes play perfectly when streaming from iTunes to my iPad however.... so how comes they don't play correctly on ATV?

When you say encoded, what did you use to encode them? I assume you're just using the ATV as standard without XBMC and attempting to play 1080p. Only reason I ask is that I've seen around that 1080p playback via XBMC can be a little choppy from Blu-Ray rips.

This is a framerate issue due to it being ~24fps. I'm converting in handbrake at 10,000kbps (so ATV2 can play them without dropping frames).

It seems to be a pull-down issue... but I was hoping that there is some way to correct it on ATV. Seems strange that the ipad can resolve 24fps but my ATV cant.

Very odd, maybe the inner workings of the iPad have the ability to process it...or it's lowers the quality within the iPad..decreased resolution on iPad allows for more processing power to get smooth playback...hhmm the mind boggles. I might have a look into it. Intrigued now =]

iPad 1 or 2?

iPad 2 has the A5 whereas the ATV and iPad 1 had the A4.

That's what I was initially wondering, whether it was a processing power issue. Initially thinking that the res is smaller making it easier, but in fact the iPad 2 has more internal spec if the ATV is only an A4.
