ATV2 Jailbreak

Fairly straightforward update then?

I'm on a JB'd 4.3 install with Eden. Guess I just hit the update in the ATV menu, JB as normal using Seas0npass and reinstall XBMC?

Can anyone else get ITV player working on this? i get script errors!

iplayer and 4OD are working great though.

Looking forward to getting iOS apps running on this, it might actually be worth buying if you could put iOS on it fully functional

been pondering on getting the ATV2 for xbmc, was wondering if it would play files that are 1080p on my nas fine? i know it only outputs at 720p but will its play back 1080p mkvs fine over a wired network?

So, once jailbroken, does XBMC just run as an app on the ATV2 and, if I want to make use of the standard Apple functionality, I can still access this?

EDIT: Oh, and does XBMC do proper 24p playback of MKV files?

So it downscale it?
Not 100% sure but I'm guessing so.

Yes and yes
XBMC is another option in the menu bar.
MKV files play as they would on your main computer.

Cheers. Actually have a full PC in the living room doing HTPC duties but I'm tempted to get an ATV2 just to play with tbh :)

EDIT: Hmm, I'm reading that the ATV2 doesn't support 1080p playback - is this true and, if so, does XBMC allow this once installed?

No it doesn't support 1080p output. It will play 1080p video but it will be downscaled via hardware, so running XBMC won't help in that respect.

Ah ok, that renders it completely useless to me I'm afraid. I'll wait for the third version and hope that supports 1080p.

Completely useless because it doesn't support 1080p - what system are you running?

System? A 1080p TV which I want to drive at native resolution, oddly enough.

I am not getting into the 720p/1080p "you need to be Superman to tell the difference" debate again because it's rubbish - I can tell the difference easily. I have 1080p MKV files and a 1080p TV, why on earth would I want to put a 720p only device in between them and reduce the quality?

I'll wait for the next version.

What happens when you want to watch TV broadcast at best in 720p?

Obviously he doesn't...

Just like them MKV's are true 1080p quality... The resolution might be right but compression is a bitch...
