Audi A1 - which engine?

Hi,

My sister is currently looking to swap her mini for an Audi A1.

She works around 70 miles from home but only does the trip 3-4 a times week so not excessive mileage. The sales man is currently trying to talk her into a diesel engine and I'm not sure whether to advise her against this when looking at the the other engines on offer i.e the 1.4.

I'm not sure this is a car suited to a diesel engine and can't help but think a petrol will be a nicer drive.

Can anybody with experience of these cars give me some advise? One of the drivers behind this change is fuel economy due to increased mileage - so what would be the best engine to go for?

Diesel definitely for that milage.
70 miles from work = 140 mile round trip x 4 times a week x 52 weeks a year = 29120 miles per year. That's big milage and the saving will be huge.

Ok, I'm going to have to check the mileage with her as that doesn't sound right. She has a flat near to work but comes home a few times a week to see family/friends.

Yeah, that is definitely in the realms of a diesel being worthwhile. And shouldn't suffer from DPF issues due to regular runs. Even at half that mileage.

I would personally be pushing her towards a diesel rather than away from.

To be fair though, assuming 5 weeks holiday a year when she wouldn't be going back and forth, it's still 26k per year. And if I were driving 26k per year (which I pretty much do to be fair), I'd be wanting to do it in something a little more spacious than an A1. But I do realise birds are different.

There is the 1.6 diesel too though, which will be much better on fuel. Or the S1...

Yes she is buying new.

I'll have a chat tomorrow and see what figures she's got and get her to go for the diesel. I'll have a look on broadspeed etc when she knows what spec she wants.
