Mates Audi A3 3.2 (04) has a poor idle especially when hot, its rough at low revs which seems to clear at 2,500rpm -3000rpm

Car has done 70k miles.

Any common problems, I have read about stretched cam chains causing timing issues, and also lazy lambdas. The dealership can't seem to find any problems.

no idea if its the same but on scoobs and porsches when that happens its the MAF

on the S2k it was the cam sensor(?) and to fix it you hit it with a hammer

get it hooked up to a vagcom and check if its miss firing - if so its most likely to be a stretched cam chain and a very hefty bill :(

not always, :) i had the same symptons with my 4motion(more or less the same engine) and it was needing a new cam sensor. easy job and the sensors not dear.

another thing id check is for logged misfires, they can do odd things on 6cyl lumps

vagcom is definately the answer though

My RS4 did this once - couldn't track the problem down through vag com.

Changed the Maf and both lambda sensors and problem went away...

If the lamda's are dead it will overfuel - mpg down at all?
