Audi A3 cheaper alternative

What's the most similar (but cheaper) option to an A3? I'm looking for something less than 6 years old with under 80k milage and the A3's (though I do like them a lot) is just a tad expensive. Is there a VW / Sokda eqiv to the A3?

No, this is based on the Polo platform.

Fox beat me to it, but the engine sizes (and the physical size of the car) of the Fabia seems more of a match to a Polo than a golf / A3. The Octavia is a little large for me. The Golf's don't seem a great deal cheaper but I'll definitely look into the Leon.

Same drive train and overall good value for money cars.

The Seat Altea is based on the same platform and is cheaper than the Leon. The downside is the plastics in Seats look cheap but they don't damage the same as the Audis **** trim.
