Audi A3 poor efficiency?

Tbf thought, it can also be due to the longer gear ratios too, so what a mondeo 2.2 can get at the same speed to a A3 etc may differ a lot more. As a bigger engine will require less throttle to keep it at a higher speed than that of a small engine. Then the ratios of the gears will also play a part, as well as other factors like tyre sizes and quality etc.

Cool I look forward to 65mpg in my car on my next 85mph Motorway run :D

Cover your car in butter, it will make the air slide over it more efficiently, and you will get 80MPG.

The difference in wind resistance alone is enough to make this impossible.

I'm sure it is tbh. Probably a whole host of other factors at play. Been a while since I remember this happening but it was something like

27mpg @ 70
25mpg @ 90
22mpg @ 80

And I was a bit confused.

I probably did a short trip and didn't reset before the 80 run or something.

The majority of the tricks a modern car uses to give great mpg have less effect at speed (none in the case of stop start, optimised auto shift points etc) At 90mph a new 2l tdi & a random 15 year old example will probably be within 5% of each other, mpg-wise.

High speed cruising is where fuel cost per unit of energy matters, & LPG comes to the fore.
