Audi A7 - complete with night vision..!

2011 S Class will also have Active Night View Assist Plus as standard, which aswell as the IR HUD has spotlight feature such that any 'high risk' pedestrians are actually illumininated by a directionally controlled beam of light from the headlamp.

If I was a pedestrian at night and whilst walking towards an on coming car (which almost blinds you anyway) only to have a spotlight shone in my face... I would be less than pleased!

If it results in an accident then yes, you do the crime, you do the time. It might not be pleasant but it's the way the world works. A simple mistake could end a life.

But take Mr "Spirited Driver" who only gives his car the beans when there is no one else around and the conditions are good. There is no chance of anyone getting hurt apart from himself.

He overcooks it and throws his car into a grass verge. No damage apart from to his car and his pride. BUT now he has a black box saying that he was doing 1.5 times the needlessly imposed 50mph limit on this stretch of road 30 seconds, or to put it another way over half a mile, before the crash.

The plod now have an easy dangerous driving case on their hands which they can choose to pursue.

Personally I wouldn't have one if they could be avoided whether it be by running older cars or paying a premium each year not to have one.

The trouble is Mr "Spirited Driver" is in the minority. For the vast majority of people who drive to work and back etc I can only see it being a positive thing.

This is true, and as such if it meant reduced premiums for the masses those of us that don't want one will have to pay a premium for not having it.

The question is, do the majority of drivers need to have one for them to be of any use? What I mean is, does it only work at its best if all the cars involved in a shunt have one fitted?

Anyway, back on the topic of night vision, the fantastic LuxGen 7 has it - http://www.luxgen-motor.com/cars/7-MPV/default.asp under advanced technology.
