Audi owners in here!

Thinking of getting rid of the S3 and getting an RS4 B7 now that I do not need a car to travel to work. Just a little tired of having small turbo'd engines so wanting a V8 and i'm thinking of E92 M3's or RS4's

For those that have or have had an RS4 what are the running costs like? I'm aware of DRC problems, cost of replacement brakes and tires etc. The engines seem pretty bullet proof with the exception of the coking issue that I'm well aware of already :p

Really tempted to take up the warranty now. I know you're not meant to claim on existing issues but if I were to I don't think I'd be the first and I wouldn't be the last.

The sat nav is out of date (can be done under warranty as there is a known fault with the voice nav).
There is a rattle behind the glove box and some of the trim on the dirvers door 'creaks'.
The air con fan needs replacing.

All the above are costly fixes, which I should be able to get done under warranty.

Your creaks and rattles are easy to fixe .... have a look on AudiSport.net you will find lots of help on removing your glove box to sort out what is loose behind it and with the door panel to.

Also there might be something here

I decided to sell my a3 and buy another...a3 lol.

Basically I love it but it is boring to drive so I am going to get the 3.2 quattro version. With a BCS sport exhaust, remap, and h&r springs it should be quite nice!

It'll still be boring. I have an S3 and it's boring.

I can't really see myself keeping it much beyond spring.
Yes it's fast and grips like there's no tomorrow but one word I would never use to describe it is 'fun'.
It's capable, fast and solid. Fun it is not. Even doing 155 on the autobahn wasn't 'fun'.

I have an RS4 and they arent cheap to run. Most with DRC issues should have been sorted by now being they are 6 or so years old. Mines been ok but I think thats £600 ish a corner. Ive just done Front and rear pads and discs and thats 2k, tyres all round is 1k. Boggo oil service is £300 ish. Major service your looking £700-£800 ish. Tax £500 a year, I think the 06's is less.

20mpg if you are lucky, 220 ish miles to a tank which is £80 on super. Engines are prone to coking which kills some power but normal on these engines. A proper decoke is £1000 via MRC.

Mines been pretty decent, Had a Typre pressure monitor go, had all coils replaced by Audi but 5 out of 8 went at £30 a pop and had a steering pump go which they wanted £1700 for but I had all coils and the pump done under warranty (£1000 a year)

Different power delivery to a turbo, Had a Focus ST before and its a different drive ringing a V8 to 8k rpm.

Engines are generally solid, have seen a few stories about lunching themselves but pretty rare. If you can find a well looked after example then should be relatively trouble free but if you dont have a pot of money aside for a rainy day then you'd want to consider one.

That's what the problem is with the older bargains, a 56 plate, well priced, constant power and long rpm, more desirable any day but...

Once I went through the running costs you really need at least 3k a year just to maintain it, more if you're using it on the track.

Thanks for answering, I have heard that the v3 DRC shocks have mostly resolved the leaking issue. Prices I pretty much expect and the coking issue looks quite simple to clean just time consuming.

Driving a turbo car is great don't get me wrong but a large V8 revving to over 8k is very appealing and a scratch I need to itch! Looks like I can get some good well speced examples for 18-20k.

Do you have the Avant or Saloon?

if it's pre may 06 (I think that's the cut off/transition date) then it should be <£300 (think £285-295) tax for the year on the v8 ;)

probably already read up on it but watch out for that chain rattle on startup due to broken/damaged chain guides which are on the back of the engine. also think some are getting oil consumption issues due to cylinder wall scoring, so just another thing to be mindful off when hunting down your beauty ;) (reading loads of threads on audi-sport and audizine can really scare you :p )

Thinking of getting a 2008 Audi A5 3.0 auto Quattro, what should I be looking out for?

Seems the leather on the side drivers seats aren't very good, all that I've seen are cracked and faded.

I'm sure there's more serious things to look out for though, and why I'm here.

Cheers. :)

3 months?! So I will be waiting around the same time? This is my first proper car, I'm 19, but works treating me well haha. I opted for the privacy glass but is it as bad as it looks on google? Are there any better examples?
