I tend to agree with you on external looks. The A4 does look better. In just about every other way though, the BMW is nicer (floating ipad thing aside).

Space-wise in the A3 8V, unlike the previous 8P model, the Sportback and saloon have a slightly longer wheelbase which gives decent rear passenger room. The 3-door is still very tight in the back.

The boot is however alarmingly small in both the hatches and is a bit of a weird shape - quite "tall", especially with the floor dropped, but not very "deep" at all (i.e. from the rear edge to the seat-backs). The 8P was actually better here.
 
I'm assuming the Golf mk7 and latest A3 are very similar so forgive me if they aren't, but I'd echo the above with a 5 door golf.

Leg room and general space in the back of mine is surprisingly decent for this segment, but boot is pretty shallow.

Yeah same platform.
 
8 year old banger I picked up the other day.. only bought it for the Quattro in this weather, surprised how good on fuel it is

S Line Special Edition.. does have some cool options such as detachable tow bar and electrics that have never being used

I have but I wouldn't go there at the moment because without Quattro I wouldn't be able to drive around it.

12c in Leeds tommorrow. Thank goodness for Quattro :D
