Audi owners in here!

Is there a particular brand of oil to pick for the Audi 1.8T engine? I know that with my Focus ST it was quite particular to motorcraft oil

Oil Options:
Mobil

Castrol

Castrol Edge

There also appears to be 2 different types of oil filters from carparts4less to pick from?

£3.84

£8.04

Castrol Edge Professional 5w30 was the recommended oil for all modern Audi engines Petrol or Diesel when I had the 2.0TFSI - not sure if the 1.8T needs something slightly different though (being a bit older).

Amusingly the TTRS is the only Audi RS that doesn't come out of the Quattro GMBH factory. It came out of the same factory in Hungry as the standard TT.

As a mildly interesting aside the mk1 TT quattro Sport did come out of the quattro GmbH factory and has a quattro GmbH VIN. I hope they make another quattro Sport/Clubsport/lightweight model at some point.

Follow what you mean. I understand the basis of the 'S' designation, i just wanted a quick way of differentiating between the 'base' models and the higher spec and slightly modified engine in the TTS.

Anyway, my Audi dealer already new this might happen when i purchased the TT. Set out my position to them today and told them what values i'm looking at to make a deal happen, hopefully be in a TTS before month end.

Cool. :)

Out of interest what year car are you looking at roughly? I personally prefer the later black edition models (you get a bit more spec standard) but there some early TTS cars circa 2008/2009 that look really good value.

comming home on the m25 today i put the wipers on as we went through a shower and the drivers side wiper stopped working,
turns out the bracket holding the spindle had snapped, got quoted ~£240 from my local garage :/

well they fitted the new linkage and then found that the motor wasnt working properly, they offered to find a second hand one to keep the price down..
got the car back yesterday at a cost of £275, went for a drive thismorning and after working for 6-7 wipes they stopped,
so i took it back to the garage, they checked it over and said erm, we think the motors broken.. ffs
he then starting saying that as it was a second hand motor it wasnt guarenteed, well tbh thats their problem, im not paying for a broken motor
got to go back first thing monday morning to get it sorted as they couldnt do anything today

Out of interest, does the all road version have anything interesting like trick suspension or is just a visual thing with the plastic arches etc

It has Air Suspension and several pre-set ride heights or the option to set your own ride height. I paid the same as I would have for the standard A6 Avant quattro but this has loads of extra goodies, so a no brainer really.

Lovely car :D out of curiosity.... What are the min/max ride heights you can set? Can you do it in the fly too, I. E. Whilst driving along?

Not 100% sure to be honest but I think it can be increased by 60mm. I know that if it's set high and your speed rises above a certain level it does automatically drop the ride height to improve handling.
Its easily the best ride I have experienced and the adaptive air suspension is as smooth as silk :)

Anybody here owned or own an S3 8L?

I like the styling and am after something fun and quicker than my current car. I'm aware they're getting on a bit but I've had a look at common issues etc. Apart from that the only issue might be finding a good example, my gut tells me most will need a bit of work but I've come across one that has had cambelt, clutch and a whole load of other stuff done.

Also open to other suggestions below £3.5k mark.

Thanks

What car do you have at the moment? I had one previously and it was a very solid feeling car but not as quick as you would think. I wouldn't call them fun either apart from when coming on boost. Common issues...

Haldex earth strap snaps so no AWD
Rear calipers prone to seizing
Rear springs snap
Rusty roof rails
Rusty front arches
Rust at the bottom of the doors because of the plastic strip
Xenon lights fail and dip down at the ground due to a plastic clip snapping
Oil pickup feed issues although common on all 1.8t engines of this age...
Cracked exhaust manifolds although this doesn't really cause issues as it normally cracked internally to the turbo collector.

Mine was remapped with an intake and stainless steel exhaust manifold with sports cat and larger downpipe. It did go alright but I was beaten going uphill by a Toyota Corolla T-sport which should have had at least 50hp less than my S3 was meant to have. Turbo's will be tired though at this age if they haven't been replaced.

If I had around that kind of money and I wanted a relative hot hatch it would have to be a Megane 225. Not sure what else is on the market in that price range.

I have a fiesta mk6 1.4 currently, so you can understand why my next car to be a step up in terms of performance :p

Yeah it could be a concern that it's not as "fun" as some other options, I'm also considering the Fiesta mk6.5 ST which although slower could be much more enjoyable, cheaper to run and newer.

Not really a fan of the Megane styling at all I'm afraid.

Think it is bi-turbo, the newer engine is 313PS though. The single turbo variant is around 240 ish bhp.
