A number of posts back I was complaining about the drone of my B9 S4 during sensible driving. Turns out Audi have sold me a 3-year old approved used car that has had a resonator delete done on it which no one noticed during the 149-point check list or pre-sale prep.
We only know because the car is in for some other work (faulty thermostat causing the temp to read as 100 degrees even with a cold engine and fans kick it to 100%). A mechanic did one of the Audi Cam vids to show me tyre and brake wear etc, and he took the vid under the car and noted the exhaust catching on a brace and also some non-genuine welding where the centre resonator should be.
They are sorting it FoC and have apologised for it not being noticed or rectified before I bought the car back in March. I've had the car 6-months now...but with 4 of them months being in Lockdown and me only travelling 1000 miles in that time I think it would have been pretty clear cut I didn't do this given the corrosion visible on the welds if blame was pushed back to me.
I know a lot of people say the checklist isn't worth the paper it's written on (and this is the 2nd thing on it that's been ticked but is clearly broken or missing, the first being the retractable luggage cover that was just completely missing from the car) but Audi do appear to hold it in fairly high regard...at least the idea of it anyway. Maybe I should have been a bit more thorough with my own inspection of it before buying! Eitherway it's worked out OK in the end, just hope it helps with the drone when I get it back in a day or so.

After some clarification. Had a major service done at Audi in July. 30 days later I get a message that an inspection is due, Audi explained that this is a brake fluid change due at 3 years. I decided to take it to a local specialist who did the brake fluid service but they told me they didn’t reset the inspection warning because Audi should have done that at the major service ??
The whole '2 service counter' thing is an absolute mess across the VW group and i've never seen a straight sensible explanation of how it's meant to work from an official source.
My current understanding is it works slightly differently depending on service regime.
Fixed - both counter are every 10k, simple, always in sync and means all the items that fall on 20k, 30k, 40k etc. are easily picked up.
Variable - the oil counter updates based on usage, up to a theoretical max of something like 18,600 miles. The inspection counter runs to 20k. I think the idea from the engineers at VW originally was that people would get oil changes (only) as and when the counter said oil change and then you would also take it in on 20k intervals for specific time/mileage based work like inspections, air filters and belts etc. In reality most places seem to just to do a 'major service' every time the oil change counter says it's ready and then reset both. If that happens to be at the same time as an item like an air filter, it might get done.
Either way, i'd have expected them to reset both your counters based on how most dealers seem to operate the regime

I got to try out an e-Tron this week fitted with the virtual door mirror option. I was expecting it be another tech gimmick but they were amazing; allowing the driver so much more visibility. Great to see innovation on this area of the car, which has largely remained unchanged for decades.
You should try the Honda E versions of this, totally amazing, a step up beyond this again.
So it's been a while since I posted in the thread, my last Audi (S3) was 2 cars ago. Funnily enough my newest acquisition is also the same colour: Daytona Grey.
It's very early days, but I'm very happy with it. The acceleration is nothing short of biblical, especially for such a heavy car. It's obviously not as chuckable as my Cayman, so needs to be driven in a different manner - canny into a corner, no sudden or heavy throttle or steering inputs until you point the nose and use the power to slingshot out. Can't see myself getting bored of 600hp
Everything else is fairly standard Audi; nice materials and solid feeling. I'll miss the sports car feel, but now I have rear seats and somewhere to put a bag or 20!

@naefeart nice motor. I’ve just picked up an RS4, best decision I’ve ever made. The V8 is exceptional, it’s so brutal, love it.
There’s only two things that need sorting on mine. The rear RS4 badge has faded in the sun, so need to get the red sorted again on it. The other thing is really just down to my car OCD, the previous owner has different tyres on the front and the rear. They’re all good brands but I prefer Michelin PS4’s, so will be wrapping the wheels in new rubber soon.

You'll feel happier when you've got the same tyres at all corners. The badge is an easy fix too.
I keep volunteering to pop out to get milk etc. Such is the lure of the V8 sound. This is my 4th (previous: M5, S5 and ISF) and I just keep coming back. They won't be around for ever, so best make the most of them.
I've just given the interior and leather a clean ft or good measure. Such a nice place to do lots of miles. Really comfortable in the back too, my little one will be spoilt
If I fit non Audi RO1 tyres in future, do I invalidate my Audi used approved warranty?

Indeed, you had to tow the line to keep your Porsche warranty intact. It will be disappointing if Audi is the same.
The issue is their approved RO1 tyres are so out of date: Dunlop Sport Maax, Pirelli PZero and Continental Sport Contact 5P. You would assume they would update these as Porsche do, but I can’t find any such info anywhere.

Maybe get your partner (so it's a different name on their system if the answer isn't the one you want

AFAIK Porsche are the only ones to mandate the tyre thing.
