Hi

picked up my audi q3 last night and was wondering about the satnav!!

Has I didn't have it installed into my car his there a way of doing it my self ?
if so could anybody help me out please !! has they wanted nearly £700 at the audi garage.

thanks Dan

Just buy a tomtom or the like. If you wanted the factory system, i'd imagine there would be all sorts of modules, new aerial, wiring etc required. I.E. a massive ball ache. and should really have been fitted at the factory as you'd probably need to rip up half the car to fit it.

According to a quick google, all Q3's are capable of accepting the SD card Sat Nav but it's only available from Audi dealerships. It will in the main cost you ~£700 (people quote £450 for SD card and £200 for the labour/upgrade). Many people state they managed to get the job lot for £450 though once negotiating with the dealer or waiting until there is an offer on. It seems from a very quick google search that that's your only option.

How much was it as an option on the car when purchasing new?

All modern Audi's have the necessary hardware installed at the factory. The "upgrade" is the SD card and also the activation of it. Its quite good as it means that, if you buy a 2nd hand one that didnt come with it, you can have it enabled at a cost.

When are Audi going to catch up and just make navigation standard across the entire model range and be done with it?

Who cares about navigation when you have rock hard S-LINE suspension, LED DRL's and the latest numberplate?

I don't really use mine i drive a lot around Cornwall and know most of it very well but there has been times when i do go on it to find a country road to short cut a crash or something that's causing traffic not to move.

Then its been priceless.

Quick related question how come the bmw system (2015) doesn't warn you of the speed of the road i found it very handy in america when driving around.

Because the German manufacturers have realised that by making this system excessively complicated, you can charge for it as an optional extra.

So, my 2012 copy of IGo Primo running on Android will display the speed limit of every road. Meanwhile, my 2015 5 Series will not, because it doesn't have 'Speed Limit Display'. which adds a pointless camera to 'scan' the road for signs that might have changed since the navigation mapping was updated

The speed limit data is in the map, and the system is capable of displaying it, but doesn't

Well that's just rubbish lol :p

It was on the mustang i had in LA and very handy as i didn't notice speed limit signs as much as i do here so it prob saved me a few quid not getting pulled over.

I didn't even see it on the option list when i ordered but tbh i didn't look that hard as the option list was already up around 2k i wasn't in any hurry to find anything else i wanted or didn't need and end up adding....

edit: yep just checked

Speed limit display
£ 200.00

Thats crazy price when other options like
Seat heating, front
£ 295.00

the above isn't much more im sure that is just a function they can just enable on the black panel.

Same on my SEAT. It'll show speed limit signs on the map itself, but not in the DIS or anything unless you have whatever additional add-on pack provides that feature with the camera, which I'm not even sure is available in the UK market.

In likelihood sped limit display is a software option that can be enabled via vagcom, it certainly was on the new Octavia.
