Currently looking into the Audi S4 Quattro (2.7 V6 BiTurbo) you can pick up a 99 - 00 for around 9 - 10k.

Great looking car, nice and quick but whats the catch, i means thats a shed load of car for 9k i take it the running costs are high?

Anyone had experience with one, seasoned views welcome!

Cheers for the info :)

I want to keep the Mx in the garage only for weekend and warm weather usage so I'm seriously looking into replacing my current second car (2004 Clio) with something fast / large but powerfull, i can't drive a dull car so it has to be fun down the back roads and good for trips to the 'ring but also at home sitting on the motorway for work.

Hey fella,

what sort of costs did you inccour during ownership, from what i've read you loved the car and it was trouble free?

I've got several ideas in my head as to what i want, mainly it must deal with situations that the MX can't :)

Cheers for the posts lads some top info, I will post further about it during lunch :)

I think whatever i get it has to be 4WD, never owned one before but due to the weather i think it will be ideal, don't really want a second RWD car and i don't do powerfull FWD motors.

I was thinking about the Audi Quattro since they look stunning however i don't know if i want an 80's tastic motor (No matter how good) as my main car, thats why something around the 98 - 00 area takes my fancy.

I love jap motors, its honest get in turn the key and drive off motoring and they make some stunning cars, but for this one i'm being pulled into the land of the germans for some reason, i think its the 'never owned one before' factor.

Not that bothered about an M3, nice cars i just can't see myself driving one, love the 540i but that could be a bigger money pit than the S4.

I agree that the RS2 is an icon and the S4 almost looks like a normal A4, but i love that understated look that makes the chavs think its nothing that special and people who know about cars respect it for what it is.

Andy if i got one you can bet your bottom dollar it won't stay stock for too long :)

540i!

And deep pockets.

I really like the 540i but the running costs scare me and if i get a lemon i will have to sell my body on fridays to pay the bills.

Would love an M5 and i blame TomO firmly for this but i just don't think its an option.

unless they're a specific part to that car, surely you can source brand new turbines for less than that?

The great thing about having access to 4 cars is the fact if one breaks it really doesn't matter, i can't see the turbos being custom fit and as Andy stated i can just slap on some K04's anyways.

And this will be different on an S4?

No particually i suppose, its the tuning potential and 4wd that makes the S4 more appealing.

If truth be told my research is limited to almost woman like, umm that looks nice, not sure of the ins and outs.

My feeling is i want something that will deal with the bad weather / snow better than my current car, however i like to play with my cars so scope for upgrades must be an option.

It must do the respectable looking business car thing but also be good to chuck round the ring and satisfy my cuoristy to change things, otherwise it will be a passing fancy.

That mazda looks kinda boat like :p

M635csi is retro cool for sure, two schools of thought are newer car like the S4 leave it alone for a while, or older cheaper car and do that up, so thats volvo 740 / BMW, a project would be nice but the car i got out of it wouldn't really fit my overall needs.
