Hi folks,

Had a quick search in here and couldn't find too much comment on this car...... Anyone here got one as I'm keen on them and the 08/09 models can be had for what seems to me decent money. I've come across the below which I might have a test drive of this weekend :)

For those that own are there any good specific questions to ask about this model beyond the obvious and usual questions?
Also I've never dealt with Audi dealers at all, but I like a haggle - will. Win or lose?!

Any advice greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Paul

They aren't as fast as Audi would like you to believe, but they are decent enough to drive, loads of grip and the interior is a great place to be in.That one seems well specced. I'm sure you could get one with the same spec, with less miles on the clock if you bought privately.

It aint too shabby with that spec list, and id say its pretty nippy, being 0-60 in 5.1 :p

I'd rather lose the coupé and get an S4 with the 3.0TFSI engine, or spend a bit more and get an S5 convertible with the 3.0TFSI.

The 4.2FSI isn't that great IMO.

Agree. You can buy an S4 for maybe 2-3k more with a much better engine. I do like the shape/look of the S5 though.

Token '335i M Sport Coupe' suggestion

As good as the 3.0TFSI engine is in the Audi S4, it still doesn't cut the mustard compared with the N55 335i.

AUDI S4 (3.0TFSI) - 328bhp, 27mpg, 239g/km CO2 (Yes, that means it's in that irritating £445 a year bracket), 1720kg.
BMW 335i (N55) - 306bhp, 33mpg, 196g/km CO2, 1600kg.

The S4 with it's extra 20bhp will not feel any quicker, due to the extra 120kg it'll be lugging around, nor will it feel as agile, again due to its weight. Audi also have their classic numb steering problem (i don't think they've cracked it yet have they?). I should imagine the pick up and throttle response on the Audi will be fantastic though, due to it being supercharged, but the BMW has been described as almost lag free, with its twin inlet turbocharger, so...

If we're comparing the 335i to a V8 S4, the 335i (ED N54 is comparable at this price) wins, for me, hands down i'm afraid.

Both sound great, both look great and tbh, whichever one you go for, you will have one fine car :)

Parkers doesn't list the figures anywhere near what you've had them at (neither the weights, the MPG of the S4, or the the Co2), are your figures for the 335i based on an auto saloon (the only fair comparison for an S4 with S-Tronic) or something else?

As for the steering feel, if you can get an S4 with drive select and dynamic steering, you can sharpen up the steering quite nicely :)

The main benefit of the Audi engine is that it will pull with no drops in power all the way to the red line it loves to rev and still pulls well low down, the 335i tails off around 5.5k which can get annoying when pressing on especially if you come off the throttle around 5.5 then go back on the power it has noticeably less torque than lower down the revs, with the 3l TFSI it just pulls hard again.

Seems plenty quick to me but I guess a test drive will help. That said going from a focus anything will feel quick lol. I prefer going through a dealer so I'm not keen on a private transaction. I hoping to do a deal but I've never dealt with Audi before so don't know the attitude of their salespeople

Me too hence the interest. Nothing worng with the A4/S4 but I dont want one.

Not keen on BMW, that's a decent car slightly quicker - just doesn't float my boat and I see lots of them around my way. So I'm just looking for something slightly different.

I should also add, this will be a bit of a toy, I only cover Circa 8k a year at best so whilst MPG is always a consideration it's probably not the be all and end all with that mileage.

Can anyone give me more on the audi dealers? attitude and the like?

Cheers
Paul

S5 in short, looks nice, gorgeous inside, makes a glorious noise and has some excellent mid-range power.

Downsides, its heavy and it shows in the handling its weight! :(

Completely depends on the dealership in question, and who (which private company) is running it.

I've only had the pleasure of Audi dealerships run by Inchcape retail, but on the whole they have been professional and courteous, and are more than willing to sit down to negotiate (even on prices of parts/labour when challenged).

On the whole though, I felt more welcomed (and certainly had more of a rapport going) with BMW (Bluebell).

One downside vs all the good bits ;)

I guess the beamer 335 is nimbler (if that's a word), but they just don't turn me on.

Perhaps I'm swayed too much by styling??

Well that's good. Thanks for that mate. I can't imagine they're shifting loads of these at the moment, which might play in my favour......

Colchester and my local dealer at Chelmsford are seemingly tied by Group 1 Automotive Inc. https://www.audi.co.uk/content/audi...k/group-1-automotive/approved-colchester.html

One of my main priorities in a car is how it handles and how it feels on its feet, so for me its a major decision.

To answer your question I think the S5 is definetely a lot more BLING than the BMW offerings.

I guess this is another part of the test drive.

Bling, well guess I'm sticking to my Essex standards :D

I'm guessing you've had the pleasure of a drive?
