Electric may be the future but Formula E certainly isn't.
As if the ridiculously silent milk float racing series wasn't stupid enough already, they then add this utterly ludicrous 'fanboost' system. How on earth can you call it sport when fan support can affect the performance of your car.
Zero entertainment. Zero credibility.
well its gaining popularity and already is seen as a success and a lot of car manufactures are interested, so it sees it is the future.
both Ferrari and bmw have expressed interest but only once the car swap ends and development is opened up, and mercedes is also expressing interest as well and has people at the last few races, as well as signing an option for the 2018 season.
it really depends on how quickly formula e want to pace the technology, for my liking they have been to conservative each season with regulations.
Batterys are increasing capacity 5-10% every year. and teslas new larger specs increases capacity again.
So car stops will stop eventually and sooner than most people think, 2018 if it all goes well,
Currently, drivers are required to make a pit stop and swap cars, since the batteries don't have enough energy to last an entire race. This process should be eliminated for the 2018-19 season thanks to new, higher capacity batteries supplied by McLaren Applied Technologies.
it makes a lot of sense for most car manufacturers, since diesel gate and tesla 3 pre orders, the large car manufacturers have flipped their stance on electric cars and are now behind it, even toyota have all but given up on hydrogen fuel cells, its also vastly cheaper and more relevant than f1.
whats going to be more interesting is what happens over the next several decade, is f1 going to continue to decline or are the two sports going to start merging.
as for fan boost it is stupid, but at least its limited unlike the even more stupid DRS, so having stupid things like that unfortunately isn't a deal breaker for most people.
