As per title really. The backbox fell off my TT last week, and I'm weighing up Jetex and Milltek as replacement options, both catback and probably non-res for the Milltek just to get something a bit sportier sounding. From what I can tell, the Jetex is louder, so would probably go for the resonated system.

Jetex is about £100 cheaper, but the configuration is different to the original, the Milltek is very close to OEM, which some say is a good thing.

I've read that Milltek have had quality issues in the past (mainly rusting), whilst Jetex seem to have a good reputation in general.

Has anyone had experience of both brands? What's the best option? I'm completely on the fence atm.

I've been to a Longlife dealer for a quote, but that's looking like £700+.

Any thoughts?

Why not save hundreds and get the rear silencer replaced with a "Y" piece? Removing the resonator will give you drone at some pount of the rev range.

Whilst it's not for Audi TT fitment, I've only heard bad stuff about the quality and fit of Jetex systems, in fact it's why I went for a stainless system built for my car by a local company as the costs were similar to the Jetex and I'd have no dodgy fitment issues plus it meant I didn't have to fit it myself. I also understand the noise isn't great either on Jetex.

Often it's cheaper / easier to just replace most of the system as the rest will likely fail shortly after replacing the failed part.

I had a Jetex cat back system on my 2001 A3 Turbo, the fit compared to oem wasnt brilliant but it seemed to last quite well to be honest, no visible corrosion. Had my A3 for about 8 years and I would say the exhaust was on there for about 7 of those years.

I now have a 2011 S3 and I did weigh up getting a milltek but stories of corrosion, bad fittting (tips sticking out from the bumper! - which I saw pics of) and I seem to remember another problem but I wont mention is as I cant remember the details.

In the end I went with a BCS turbo back system, which doesn't really help you does it lol.

Me personally, I wouldn't go near a milltek for the above reasons. No idea if they have sorted themselves out now though.

Cheers guys. Looks like it could come down to a coin toss at this rate!

There used to be a local firm geared up for custom exhausts and they did a great job (bro-in-law had his done by them), but sold all their gear a while back.

I don't think custom will be an option. Anything like that down here in Sussex costs a fortune.

Do cobra do an exhaust for the MK1 225? I had one on my Leon Cupra R and it was superb quality, certainly no corrosion issues, no figment problems and made a great sound.

Still debating what system to put on my 3.2 MK1 TT, don’t want it to be a droning mess at mid-range.

I always thought Jetex was cheap tat? Available to buy online for Saxo's and 106's.

I'd not bother with either of them and I'd get someone to make a custom one. But if you have to choose, I'd go Milltek.

Scorpion were off the list entirely for the below reasons:

In some videos they seem to sound a bit arse (almost anything on the 1.8 does, but these seemed worse).

They cost the same at ECP as Milltek but are £100 less on eBay.

I can get a Milltek at ECP and dealing with issues will be pretty straightforward as there's an ECP round the corner from me. The Milltek only costs £20 more from ECP than eBay, so from a convenience POV, I think it's worth it.

If the Scorpion was £100 less than it is from ECP, I'd consider it. As it's almost as expensive as the Milltek, I'm somewhat put off.

What I think I've done here is scrub Jetex off the list as ECP don't stock them.

Milltek it (probably) is then!

My A4 has the 4th Milltek system I've had, and, to be honest, I don't really like them. I bought the one for my A4 second hand because it was incredibly cheap. But apart from that, I'd not bother. I'd much rather go for a custom made system personally.

On my 1.8T the downpipe split completely at the flange at the turbo side. Sheared right off. On my V6 4Motion, it sounded very "tinny", like a high pitched metallic sound. Not want I wanted from the V6. My A4 (also a V6, 3.0 this time as opposed to a 2.8) is too loud to be honest. And that's resonated. The one on the Edition 30 was perfect admittedly. Sounded just right, and I had no issues with it.

Overall, I have never been a fan of the Milltek system personally. And if it weren't for the fact that either my car came with it on (ED30), or it was very cheap (A4), I wouldn't have had another. The one on my 4mo was bought with a 25% discount so was also "cheap", hence why I bought it.

Have a milltek catback with a N/A V6 and have to say I quite like it. I do have high flow cats also mind, but the sound is quite a lot different now than when it was first fitted so I wouldn’t really take much notice of those who haven’t given it chance.

What were the issues you had with Milltek?

The guy that fitted my Remus was on about Miltek and said the build quality wasn't great and also he had to put the hangers in the correct place a few times over the years on them as they were in totally the wrong place.

Hope that wasn't aimed at me. As I said, I have ran Milltek systems on 4 different cars, 2 of which were N/A V6's. Granted I only had the high flow cats on the 1.8T. But over many 10's of thousands of miles running these (~25k - 30k in the 1.8T, 15k in the 4mo, 10k in the ED30, 5k in the A4), I have never been overly impressed. Other than on the Edition 30, which was, as I said, pretty much faultless.

With that said, I don't really have experience of other systems. Since everytime I have had an aftermarket exhaust, it's basically been a Milltek due to either coming with the car, or getting it cheap.

I actually don't think the stock exhaust on the 3.2 sounds bad, at least on my mk2 one, it's not exactly loud or impressive but makes a decent enough noise.
