Audi TT alternatives

Morning all,

Been struggling somewhat with regards to what to buy next now that I've sold my Jaguar and committed to selling the Fiero.

Ideally I don't really want to spend more than £4-£5k, preferably less (so I can spend the rest on tinkering).

I'd been looking at Audi S2 Avants, as after driving that TT Sport earlier this year I've had a hankering for something turbocharged and all-wheel drive.

The TT is still a potential candidate but I'm just not sure about the looks or powertrain. I really enjoyed the way the Sport drove, but it didn't sound particularly interesting - and I've not heard any others that are much better (examples welcome, if so).

I get the feeling I might be overlooking some alternatives, so, does anyone have any recommendations?

The coupe version of the S2 is tempting, but I'm not sold on the looks of the tail either.

The Lancia HF 4x4 was one suggestion...

With regards to TTs, I believe that something like a post-September 2000 225 quattro would be the best choice?

I appreciate it is neither turbocharged nor all-wheel drive. Infact I've pretty much failed in this thread. Sorry.

Yea, I know. I've owned a fair few BMWs though and the E46s don't do anything for me. Not even the M3s. Which probably all sounds very odd, on reflection.

I'm not sure about the S3. While the S2 wasn't that interesting cosmetically, it had degree of sleeper about it - and obviously the TT has a bit of a sporty edge. The S3, although undoubtedly quick, just doesn't have the charismatic powertrain or intrigue I'm looking for.

Got a mate selling a '98 3000GT at the moment, or at least I think it's still for sale! His own is a bit of a monster now, in fact if think Gibbo knows him!

One in that condition would be nice, though...

Impreza's actually quite tempting, if I could find a bone stockish one.

One of the guys at work just helped a friend get his first Impreza.

Owned from new by 1 guy, late 2000's wagon, just over 100k on the clock, full subaru main dealer history.

£1500.

I'm guessing you want something more special than that though. I think he said it was a Turbo 2000, but honestly can't remember.

avant and tt are 2 different styes of car, but ye scooby could fit the bill, what about supra? not 4 wheel drive but the power and externaly styling is there.
