i reformatted my computer yesterday and installed and updated xp pro its on sp2 at the moment.

the problem is my audigy 1 sound card does not appear to be working. it shows up in device manager and says its working properly but im getting no sound.

i have the same drivers i used on my previous install they install with out a problem.

when i go to control panel/sounds and audio devices it says "no audio device"

im at a loss as to whats wrong with it. :(

plug and play software device enumerator is the problem.

ive just formatted and installed xp again and the same service in device manager is corrupted again... im seriously annoyed at the moment :(

system restore to just before sp2 went in had all working sound and no error so its sp2 since as soon as it installs it corrupts the plug and play software device enumerator which results in media devices such as sound cards not showing up in programs (no audio device) :(

theres apparently files to fix it eg working files a .nfo file and a .sys file and when i go to google them every one and their dog wants to load a virus into them or charge me for the priviledge of downloading files....

edit:
i thought screw it and reinstalled xp again (been at this since friday evening) this time i never installed a single driver cept for my onboard lan one and left my comp with out a firewall apart form the routers.

every thing installed fine when i got past sp2 i installed drivers 1 by 1 while checking device manager for the dreaded (plug and play software device enumerator) all went well and i now have latest updates plus sound.

all i can think of is zonealarm was screwing up the updates for sp2 some how.

im tired now but happier :) lol
