Audigy 2 and Dolby Digital/DTS

I have an audigy 2 which is supposed to support Dolby Digital and DTS (per manual and specs)

got digital out connected to my Logitech Z5500s

However, whenever I play DD or DTS DVDs I only get 2 channel sound through the coax selected on my Logitechs

I thought I wouldn't need to upgrade DVD software for one that supports 5.1/DTS decoding as the Audigy 2 or even the Z5500s were supposed to take care of this??

any suggestions ?

cheers!

Change the sound settings in the DVD player software to S/PDIF & make sure onboard decoding is disabled.

you mean disable onboard decoding through the software?

i.e. ..

should I check the 'prefer other decoder' under filter merits?

OK! I think I sussed it!

basically for WMP , I used 'prefer other decoder' and 'use waveout' as renderer in the AC3 filter (as above)

then restarted DVD using Coax on Logitechs and voila..DD 5.1 sound! ( as confirmed by my Z5500s control panel)

Using Intervideo DVD its important to select SPID out in the audio settings and also use 'auto' or 'wave' settings under audio renderer (basically you need wave out and not directsound for SPDIF)

PS I think its best to disable SB Audigy onboard decoding from its control panel and select SPDIF pass through. I tried it the other way and still managed to get DD5.1 from my SPDIF (i.e. with the above settings in effect)..however later on during the day the above wouldn't work until I had SPDIF selected from the card's control panel and disabled onboard decoding!
