audigy 2 or onboard live! question

i have had a Audigy 2 (SB0240) card for a couple of years now. a few months ago i upgraded my PC, the Mobo being a MSi K8N Diamond which has onboard sound.

even though the mobo has 7.1 surround (which i dont need) and an optial jack (ditto) is the audigy 2 card still better?

i always thought the Live! 24 was older technology than the Audigy 2 range, so why are MSi putting it on a new topish spec mobo?

Audigy 2 is far superior to the live 24. Ive got the same mobo and compared to the usual AC 97 on board the Live is great but the Audigy is better (a lot better ).
