Go for it! A mate has an Audigy2 and my X-Fi blows it away. Mind you he has the Creative high-end 5.1's, whereas I have an actual integrated amp and standalone speakers hooked up. I find any set of PC 5.1's has nothing on a quality set of speakers.
X-Fi is definitely worth the upgrade if you can sell that Audigy off.
ill be doing something similar. i have a Yamaha 5640RDS 6.1 receiver. currently i have a set of Warfedale Laser Range Bookshelf speakers. i also have a Pioneer Accelerate 10" sub powered from a JBL 75.2 car amp 280rms @4 ohm, powered of a 12v PSU.
ill either be using the sub preout on the Yamaha to give the JBL amp the signal
or
running the sub directly off one of the B channels straight off the amp.
i have 2 of the pioneer subs but one should be ok unless i opt for stereo off the B channel. although there would be no point going for stereo as the subs will be under a desk
