Hi there!

I'm getting my new computer build tomorrow. It will have Vista 32bit Ultimate on. Now I'm wondering if I should just put my "old" Audigy 2 ZS in it or get a new card? I remember there were driver issue's and I think something with OpenAL ? Will the card decrease performance or cause unstability?

I can get a X-mod very cheap. Should I get that instead? Does it have OpenAL support?

Regards :)

I can't for the life of me get my Audigy 2 ZS working well and properly in Vista 64(I can't see 32Bit being any different). I solve one problem and another arises, I hate Creative's drivers so much. So I'm on the onboard of my motherboard.

That said, you may be fine :).

Thanks for your reply, I might pop it in and check it out.. I dunno

But I love the sound quality of my 2 ZS so much with bass turned up high ;) Don't wanna lose it haha

I myself have been wrestling with these problems for the past couple of days now, since installing Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

What I have found, through wading in and amongst many forums regarding this issue, is that the 'audiodg' process that runs in the background (that supposedly controls all audio function throughout the OS) is causing a lot of problems as well as Creative driver incompatibility.

Upon surfing while listening to music, maybe loading up a video as well, audiodg saps up the entire RAM volume and causes a BSOD (error 124, a very common one as well).

So, unfortunately for us Audigy 2 ZS and other Creative card users (mines those who have encountered no problems), it appears we need to sit tight and wait for new drivers.

Music should be fine, EAX in games needs the paid for alchemy drivers.

ye gods man don't pay for it. someone has modified the free x-fi version to work with audigy2 cards. creative don't care. it's on their forums. :)

i'm have an audigy2 plat ex and vista 32. the audigy drivers sound awful so i use the x-fi drivers - they sound much better. just download the x-fi drivers and un-rar the .exe - inside is a folder called drivers. run setup from there. :)

i use xp and even i cant stand the creative drivers...god help those on a different OS.
after a fresh install of windows my computer shuts down in seconds when i click shut down/restart....after i install the audigy 2 drivers it takes between 30-180 seconds.
i just did a fresh install of windows and done creative auto update after installing the drivers from disc...it said it needs to restart to stop and uninstall current drivers....so it restarts...gets to windows where i see my mouse cursor then reboots....loads to same point then reboots(going round in circles)...how annoying on a fresh install too.
fixing it was easy enough as i just done a system restore from safe mode but im now considering using onboard sound with my nice 450 watt speakers which is a joke.

are the xi-fi drivers any better for xp ? i like the features and sound of the audigy 2 but those damn drivers.....they also cause some pop up when i try and shut down...dr win failed to initialize or something along those lines and it only happens after installing the audigy2 drivers.

I've tried everything to get my Audigy2 to work properly in Vista.

Movies, music are fine - its just surround in games that terrible. HalfLife2 especially, you can't tell what they're saying as the centre speaker sounds muffled (this is on my 5.1)

I've also got the issue where if you play the 'test speakers' in Vista CP, all speakers work correctly, but do it in Creatives Test centre, and instead of audio coming from the rear speakers, it only comes from the fronts (so "Rear Left" comes out of "Front Left")

I'm about <---> that close to just ditching it and buying another card....
