Hiya guys, sorry if this is a repost or if the answer is in the forums, but i promise i searched!!

Fist post here, and after having used some of the advice posted here, am sure i'm in the right place!!

As the thread title suggests, i run Audigy 4 on Win 7 x64, 4GB. There is an annoying issue that affects just the mic input, whereby my voice will start to go all "warlbly" and begin to sound like a dalec. It degrades.

If i go to listening devices and change the audio properties and sample rate, the issue disappears for a while but always comes back.

I have trawled the internet and can see similar issues, and third party driver packs seem to indicate it's because the Audigy driver has difficulties with 64 bit systems and >4gb memory.

I have tried SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0011.exe and SBAX_PCDRVBETA2_US_2_18_0011.exe, making sure i driver cleansed before installation. These were even suggested by Creative Support but neither have worked. I've even tried the PAX drivers to no avail.

Audigy 4 is on Win 7 x64 Hardware Compatability List, so surely it should work.

I would describe myself as an advanced user, and do not usually draw a blank at such issues, but here i am begging for advice!!!

Anyone else come accross this issue, solved it, worked around it or have given up and got a new compatable card!!?

Thanks in advance for reading all this and for any help you may be able to give.

Steve

UPDATE: It may be worth noting that I have also tried the Daniel K packs, but in the rls notes it mentions . . .

Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB of RAM or more

Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).

Workarounds:

- install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows (not an option)

- limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB (Tried That)

- enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports the setting (does not exist on my MB)

Also had random issues with exactly 4 gig of memory and my x-fi. messed around for ages and *seems* ok for me now, but I'm sorry I can't remember the exact fix. quickest way for me was to go down to 2 gig though....which doesn't help at all! I can't see this issue being fixed very quickly if ever.....

I've had to use onboard sound for microphone and Audigy 2 for 5.1 speaker. Even Daniel K's driver sucks and the output crackles a bit. Feel a little miffed by Creative not supporting the cards into Windows 7.

Did try full onboard sound for speakers and microphone but the sound seemed so lifeless and empty.

I get same issues with my Audigy 2 ZS. Really annoyying. Onboard sound still doesn't come close to soundcard audio though. I love how all the new mainboards are like HD sound 7.1! Yet my old skool £16 Audigy 2 from ebay is better and its like 3 years ago since i got it!

Only way to get rid of audio issues is never to buy a creative card again, go either Asus on Auzentech.
