Im using an Audigy soundcard which is doing my head in! In games, it'll only register noise of things to the left or right of me. If something is directly ahead of me it's silent...

Why is this?

At a guess I'd say that the soundcard has been told that you to have a multi speaker setup and you only have stereo. Check the driver software that it's set to the correct speaker configuration for your hardware.

Failing that I would try and re-install the driver and software. Creative software is terrible though and I always had trouble with it.

Ahh, its annoying because it changes back to 7.1 every time i restart. Is there any way to set the default as Headphones in Creative Audio Control panel?

From what I recall if the creative software there was a synchronise with windows option (or something) that supposedly changed the setting there too. At a guess is say that even though you set the speakers to 2.0 in creative it's not getting changed in windows.

Pull up your speakers settings in sound control panel applet and check it out.

It could just be the rubbish creative software causing issues for you. Have you tried Daniel K. Drivers?
