I plan on making the move over to Vista X64, but the last time I looked creative had no drivers. I connect my speakers via coax, does anyone know if my audigy will work under Vista? I cant afford a new card at the moment, but if it comes to it I will wait and make the move at a later date.

BTW what card works best with games under Vista? Thanks :)

my audoiddy (lol could never spell that) worked fine, but that was over normal. the drivers were very basic though, but i didnt have much to any problems with them.

Currently I connect to my home theatre speaker setup using digital coax, but I understand the option to do this with Vista drivers is missing?

Do we know if Creative are ever going to bring out proper Vista drivers for the Audigy 2? I might consider using Vista all the time if my Audigy 2 worked properly. All I get at the moment is 2.1 sound, poor sound quality and no EAX advanced EQ options.

It seems that the cheapest equivalent Creative card would be the Xi-Fi Extreme Music OEM card which is ~£50. I'm not keen on rewarding their laziness in writing drivers with my hard earned cash for another sound card when the A2 still sounds perfectly good.

There must be a lot of people in this position as the A2 has been a very popular card.

i found the sound quality of the vista audigy drivers to be awful too. but if you download and unzip the x-fi drivers, inside is subfolder called \drivers. this contains a setup program which installs drivers only and the sound quality is back to what is was like in xp (well at least for me). i only have a stereo setup though....

and i don't know if you've heard of alchemy?

creative being lying ***** said it will only work on x-fi cards but a workaound has been made which means it will now work with audigy cards too. :)

Yeah I did actually try the X-fi drivers yesterday and they did indeed install, but I couldn't personally tell the difference aurally, and I still didn't have anything other than 2.1 sound. Well, I got sound to come out of the other two speakers but it was poorer quality and sort of distant. The only options in the Creative audio console program were stereo sound or CMSS - not the 'stereo surround' you get under XP.

I'm not bothered about EAX in games but I do like to use the 'Techno' setting in the EAX advanced EQ, for listening to music as I think it is much improved that way. (Using the graphic equaliser within media players like WMP or Winamp is nothing like as good.) Under Vista using the drivers as they are, or even the X-fi ones, it sounds very flat. I'm using Creative speakers as well, you'd think Creative would pull their fingers out and write some drivers with the basic functionality required... grr  Especially considering that the Audigy 2 used to be top of the line when it came out; it's not as if it is some budget rubbish.

i just installed the eax console from the audigy driver cd. i just browsed to

x:\Audio\EaxCon

and ran setup. seems to work fine. choosing techno certainly gives the bass a bit more kick. :p

I just tried that but this happened... :(

I just got it working out of all four speakers :) I had to choose 5.1 speakers in the Creative Audio Console, then CMSS 2 in the EAX Console (off the Audigy 2 CD), and a bit of fiddling with the balance sliders.

It shows that there is no technical reason why the Audigy 2 can't work with surround sound in Vista then, if Creative would get onto it so it's easy for all users.

well vista was released in january and they have only just finished making an updated software cd for x-fi cards. who know's when/if there will an audigy equivalent. :p

oh and for x-fi users who want that software, you can't download it from creative. they want you to pay for the cd to be sent to your door. admittedly it's only a pound or 2 but i still think it's bit of an insult.... no matter, someone will upload the software soon enough. :)

Sorry to hijack, but which of the xfi drivers can you use for the audigy 2 zs on Vista x64?

Edit: OK i've got them installed ok, but can't get the rear 2 speakers working. Is this possible?
