audio but no video

i'm trying to play videos in WMP, and divX player & all that happenes is I get audio, but no video, any ideas? i've installed various codec packs and and reinstallng both sets of software & it still isn't working.
any ideas?

Does it work with VLC?

Use Gspot to find out which codec the videos need. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

I'd suggest you uninstall all the codec packs you've installed, and get K-lite Codec Pack. Then run the Codec Tweak Tool, and check the option "Detect Broken Codecs".

Then try opening your file in Media Player Classic, which should be included with the pack.

CCCP or ffdshow with MPC or VLC.

tried VLC, and nothing with the codec packs listed, strange things is they work on laptop which only has classic WMP & divX player with no codec packs

I had this problem, a few months back but the other way round. Video but no audio. The only thing taht worked was uninstalling all codecs, then installing CCCP http://www.cccp-project.net/

But yet all worked on another computer fine with other software.

it's 1 of those strange things that happen, couple of days ago everything was working fine, went to watch a vid the next and the problem started

tried that codec pack & still the same problem with Mpg, wmv & Avi's so i'm totally :s

new bit: right, done a system restore and all is now working, but WMP is using around 50% CPU, and is very unstable

has media player recently been asked to update its libary and then you;ve clicked "close" so it does it in the background? I've done that before and with the amount of music/video its been adding its been sat at 40-50% for a long time.
