Hey there, hope this is in the correct place. I am in a bit of a predicament at the minute. Basically I want to link my PC audio output to my surround sound device. It (surround sound) has auxilliary IN 2xRCA on the back.

The problem is that my onboard sound is output directly through HDMI to my HDTV. My non-HDMI sound ports on the motherboard have never worked for me, so I gotta use HDMI output. My surround sound doesnt pick up the PC audio when I have the "T.V" option selected.

Has anyone any ideas for me? The surround sound system is probably 5 or so years old, and may have an optical IN/OUT, not sure atm.

Oh, and I don't want to spend too much on this if I don't have to, but all solutions welcome.

I recently came across this on ebay and wonder if this will do it, but it states that its HDMI In to RCA Out, and I am confused if this will work or not.

Thanks so much!

man the quality coming from that cable will be so bad it will be embarrasing.

suggestion:
get a usb 5.1 xfi external sound card

it has spdif out and works wonders. a guy on ebay is selling refurbed ones for less then £30 atm - bargin.

I had a look at those USB 5.1 cards and have heard mixed reviews. If I have to I will get one, but are you sure about that cable, will it even work the way I want it to. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks.

How come the other onboard things have never worked? It might be worth trying to get those working. Either via the 3.5mm headphone out or a digital output.

Otherwise i'd probably try that cable, quality probably won't be great as already said but for £6 its worth finding out if you are happy with it or not.

Otherwise it sounds like maybe the settings on the amp aren't working properly. Is the HDMI input synced to the "TV" setting on the amp?

Hi there, I have searched countless forums and posted on here as to why the jack on my PC mobo wont work, but no luck in solving it. The surround sound system is old and doesnt have too many settings, none that i've come across, that would allow tv setting to be changed. My only option is a new card for sound or that cable. Either way I would still need to hook up the pc via the auxillary rca inputs on the back.

By the way I bought everything from here to build the PC a few months back, never had onboard sound working, just through the HDMI output on the ATI HD 5770.

Cable might be the best option. Unlesss anybody has any other solutions.
Thanks, Frank!

has the onboard sound never worked? I'd be changing motherboards if that's the case, any half decent mobo has onboard sound with an optical out these days and surely that would work...

Some motherboards need a jumper pin to be bridged before the onboard sound will work. Download the motherboard user manual and check if it is the case with yours.
