So, i have a machine here that is running the sigma tel audio codec for sound (its a dell with the most basic sound option).

Essentially the sigma tel has no option to 'monitor' the line in (so that it plays back anything fed to the line in through the pc speakers) as standard, and I've had to do a couple of registry hacks to get it to work.

Because I can do the hack to get it going, the chip itself obviously supports the functionality I want, but the sigma tel software is deliberately crippled.

Now, is there a way to use, say, the realtek audio codec in place of the sigma tel one?
