Any recommendations for a program that will analyse audio files (mp3, FLAC etc) - like Gspot does for video? It's the encoding info that I'm looking for.

I found this - Spectro - http://spectro.enpts.com/ - as an example of the sort of thing I'm looking for. I don't want to install the first thing that google throws up though, unless it happens to be the 'best'.

if you want something to quickly look at your whole collection, you could use foobar2000. use file>preferences>media library to tell it to scan your music folders.

then under file>preferences>media library>album list>add new...

give it name something like by codec

then enter this as the pattern....

Code:
%__encoding%|%codec% [%codec_profile% ][%__tool% ]|%<artist>%|%album%|[[%discnumber%.]%tracknumber%. ][%track artist% - ]%title%

then use main menu>Library>Album list. select the name you gave it earlier from the drop down list and you'll see something like this...
