I'm trying to connect my Playstation 2 to my Dell U2410 monitor, however the monitor only has video composite and component inputs.

The monitor also has HDMI and an audio line out.

The Playstation 2 has the audio composite jacks as well as a Digital Out Optical port.

From my thinking, I have two options. Get audio in via the HDMI and output it from the monitor, or try and convert the composite audio cables into a 2.5mm jack to plug into my sound card.

However I've spent a while searching for cables and have come up short.

Is this doable?

The monitor has a 2.5mm audio out port which the Dell Soundbar can plug into, apparently it's mainly for connecting your speakers too when using the HDMI port, - hence my PS2 Digital Out -> HDMI idea (if that's possible).

Given you suggested running it through my soundcard, I assume my 2 RCA -> 2.5mm suggestion is valid?

I'll give that a go thanks.

Just to clear things up, is a mini-jack a 2.5mm (like iPod headphones)? Because I get mostly 3.5mm results from a search for 'phono to mini-jack' - and 3.5mm's are like amplifier ports right?

The different terminologies confuse me a little

Just as a point, I have my PS2 hooked up via composite to my Dell 2407-HC, the picture is horrific so don't be expecting miracles.

I've tried the video already and it's as good as a television - I was very impressed. It's just the sound I am lacking at the moment.

Can anyone confirm/correct my previous post please before I start buying stuff? :p
