Hiya guys.

I need some help. Ive trawled the net to no real avail.

Ive got a 5970 hooked up to my plasma tv. I want audio to pass over the hdmi cable. My old 5870 did this no problem through a native hdmi connection.

On this 5970 I only have, 2 dvi and a mini display port I think thats what it is. I have the displayport to hdmi adapter but that plays no audio. Windows 7 dosnt detect a hdmi audio connection.

I understand audio will pass over dvi but i need to have an official ati dvi to hdmi converter is that right?

I have a generic converter and it will pass video but no audio, im at a loss here.

All I want is one cable from pc to tv that will pass video and audio, does anyone out there know how to do it??

Cheers

DVI > HDMI converter will NOT allow sound through.

Main reason, you are using the DVI slot which only passes video (also HD via connector).

It is impossible to pass sound via DVI.

The mini display port though, may pass sound xD

The ATI DVI to HDMI adapter will allow audio through.

I'm not sure if this works with other adapters or on both DVI connectors.

You use the AMD adapter and then a straight HDMI to HDMI cable.

Did you not get an adapter with your card?

You'll also need to set your audio playback device to AMD High Definition Audio.
