Hey guys,

I don't really know a whole lot on the subject but i've just recently been paid :) and im looking for a new firewire audio interface for my p.c

My budget is no more than £200 and all i'm looking for is something that's compatible with windows 7 (64bit) and Propellerheads reason 4.0

I'm a big fan of movies and music, so quality is obviously a priority, the best quality within the price range at least

What would you advise and is there anything i should avoid.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Hey fella!

I come from an audio recording background so pre-amps are important to me, but the fact that you are using reason suggests you use samples correct?

If so, would you need an interface which could handle 96kHz? Or is 44.1/48kHz fine?

Also, do you even need a preamp on the interface or do you work purely with softsynths/samples from reason?

I would say avoid MOTU (they're drivers are bugged to hell under 7). Have a look at M-Audio's site. They offer some great products for that price range.

Are you going to want a control surface to? You could get something like the M-Audio Oxygen (its a controller and interface in one!). But again, I will need more info from you before I can make a recommendation!

What aboot the TC Desktop Konnekt 6? For £179.99? Or the M-Audio Firewire 1814? The former has the advantage of in built TC verb which runs off DSP on the interface itself - but it does lack any digital I/O. The latter, has ADAT & SPDIF as well as 2 pres and both have low latency.

Tbh, you can't get any better than RME in my opinion, but I work with recording audio a lot so my priorities will be somewhat different than yours I would imagine. RME recently released a USB audio interface with latencies which would make any of the above CRY. They are expensive but its always you get what you pay for. The jitter rejection on the RME gear is second to none!

Thanks for replying.

And yes i was looking at a 96khz interface, i currently only own reason but next month im looking to purchase REcord and REcycle to create my own samples and record my own sounds. (should have got a mac with logic haha) my control surface is an oxygen 49 with an Asio driver so my latentcy isn't even noticeable. Anything else you need to know?

Cheers lads.
