audio issue with monitor

yes i know it's silly to use a monitor for audio but it's temporary solution until i get my maintenance loan in September. anyway getting to the point, i recently had to remove my GPU because its faulty, thing is after i removed it (while switched off), the computer no longer detects my monitor as the audio output, just stating that it's 'not plugged in', even though it is, the monitor is connected via HDMI so audio be coming out

Probably a driver issue. Do you have the motherboard drivers installed?

You may not have as you're been using GPU for video and audio.

thing is, i've checked through to make sure i have the drivers installed

Port (or GPU driving it) your monitor is connected into has to have drivers with support for audio.
