Audio options in games.

hey guys, im just curious on some games you can specify how many sounds or something in the sound options, and they are usually set to 16, am i right in thinking i can set this to 24, using a X-Fi Extreme Music card???

and is it worth doing so?

yea im using my Technics EH790 Hi-Fi in 5.1 surround..
