This may sound a little strange but has anyone else found that the audio playback in Windows 7 sounds a little off? It seems that when I'm listening to an MP3 or gaming the sound sounds a little echoey for want of a better description, as if there was an EAX effect in place or something. I'm using a cheapo SB Audigy and I've checked everything that I can think of and it all seems to check out so I'm stumped!

I have had issues with setting up a microphone properly in Windows 7 on certain sound cards, but never had a problem with playback.

Have you got all the latest drivers etc?

I am moving all my PCs to Win7/64 and the only issues I have come across with the older Cards ( Audigy 1 & 2 ) is the joystick ports. The Audio output is just fine.

So, far, this is on 4 PCs. XFI Cards are fine.

My Audigy 2 has been nothing but a headache in windows 7. Tried every type of official and 3rd party driver out there. Thought I had it fixed there for a while but I start up wmp 12 today and I'm only getting audio out my front two speakers.

I play around with the sound options in the control panel and can't fix it, in the tests it was working across all 5.1 channels or 7.1 channels fine. After trying for 15 minutes to get it working it's now decided to forget about the other channels even in the control panel speaker test part.

ARGG. Now I'm stuck with 2.1 sound everywhere even in games, again! This has been a constant problem with win7, I had thought that the latest installation of the plain vanilla latest drivers from creative were working, and they were, windows 7 just decided to break them today. Thanks!

Very frustrating.

I have a few Creative cards.

I got to say that I am perfectly happy with them... 98% of the time

As for 5.1

Right click on the Speaker icon in the bottom right of the screen
Select Playback devices
Highlight the speakers Icon and click configure
Set to STEREO and go next, next finish.
Now set back to 5.1 Surround, next next etc

Bingo!

The only issue I have with the Audigy 2 ZS and Win7 is that sometimes, very rarely, the audio will just go all crackly / distorted.

It has only done this 4 or 5 times and it has only done it when playing Dawn Of War SoulStorm and I cure it by quitting the game and re-starting the game

It also did this in Vista too

Since my Audigy 2 ZS Cards are so old and were designed before Win7 or even Vista was anyway, Im not going to blame the cards.

To fix my issue, I uninstalled the soundcard in Device Manager, deleted the driver and then reinstalled it again from the Creative website and it seems to be working ok now but it was still a PITA. Letting Windows 7 auto install drivers for hardware is obviously not the way forward it would seem :p

Thanks for the tip fatracoon. I'll have to try that next time it acts up. My audio gets crackly quite often. Oddly it can go without doing it for days and then one day it'll just keep doing it.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling every driver for them there is out there without luck.

Sometimes the way to do it is so obvious that you dont think to try it?
Also, many people have many issues so what works for me , may not work for you, but I certainly hope it does!

Let us know if it does / does not
