Hi wondering as iv tried everywhere to look for a solution to this , No matter what audio player . rythembox , VLC , Audacious ect does not keep hold of music files after iv logged out . Everytime I start up the PC , The files appear ie the names of songs n artists ect , however none will play . This is on every media player iv tried , and iv gone through most now to no avail ! . I suspect its something to do with the fact that they are native windows NFTS files and are not part of the partition , I have a dedicated drive for ubuntu 11.10 with a few music files , but its still the same issue , though they were copied from windows . All my other music is on a dedicated HD , They all play no problem , just have to re create playlists every time after new startup ? Any ideas Please ?

I bet if you made the ntfs volume automount or chucked it in fstab you'd have no problems, linux really doesn't give a damn about the underlying filesystem. I personally run mpd and my music library is on an ntfs volume, the only time I ever have issues is when i've stupidly not mounted or unmounted the volume!

Cheers Ill have a look at that , Never needed to look deeper at the properties on those files , as mediamonkey in windows doesnt lose those files . sometimes I wish everything just worked by default like most windows stuff , But I suppose we wouldnt learn anything if it were all simple click n play . Getting the media player and finding a reliable voice n video chat that works is my biggest barrier to breaking windows dependency , Thanks .

you're just not automounting the ntfs partition. Set it to auto-mount in fstab, and it'll work correctly in all media players :)

Have Done , All is working fine now , Thanks for the help , all the searches to help seem to focus on the individual players and there glitches , being used to windows it was never in the mindset to auto mount a drive , Many thanks
