Audio prob between Humax and Samsung

I've got my Humax HDR FOX T2 freeview box hooked up to a Samsung UE43M5500 via HDMI , and the optical audio out from the TV to a Teac AV amp. No optical in on the Teac so i use an opt./phono converter. Works fine

My problem is that audio on live viewing through the Humax is fine using the Humax remote, as well as being able to use the amp volume. But with recorded material on the Humax, the volume on the remote no longer works, and only the amp volume can be used to raise or lower the volume

It never used to behave in this way. Its only since i had to replace my TV. The last TV, which actually fell off the wall bracket ( oops ) and wrecked the screen, was another Samsung smart TV, and volume control could be used on both Humax remote and Teac amp, with either recorded material or live TV

I'm a tad perplexed at why simply changing one smart Samsung TV for another has suddenly disabled the Humax remote from changing volume on Humax recordings

Ok googled it, and found CEC was enabled even though i always use the original remotes
for all my devices, so have disabled CEC

Thanks furry ! This has cleared up the problem in record time. Have a pint on me

Pint of vino collapso awaits you at the bar :)

PS Samsungs own CEC is called Anynet - the googling revealed the name and i found it in the settings

HDR fox T2 (I have one) does not support CEC, so the TV could not send it remote control commands via the hdmi lead,
plus why would watching a live channel, or recording on the fox, make any difference. ?

I guess I misunderstand cec - any simple explanation ?

Yeah its a weird one i agree. I must have had Anynet disabled on the previous Samsung TV, because i didnt have that problem

I spoke too soon. Just started watching a film i recorded a couple of days ago, and the Humax remote volume has stopped working again

Amp's volume is fine, but they both should be working

I'm back again

Went into Humax audio settings and changed the output from digital to stereo - job done !

presumably you have tv optical output already set to stereo for your optical->phono(2 channel dac?) so setting humax to stereo (I do too) makes it consistant,
and tv should be able to pass it directly to optical output.

As I say have a humax too (6years), I think tv tuner is giving me better quality freeview pictures though because (my theory) it has mpeg noise redution to help with poor quality low bitrate streams.
I would like to set the humax up as a dnla server so that the tv could get the recorded programs directly.
I currently use the customized firmware on the fox so that i can control it remotely from a tablet/phone

Yup, correct neo. No HDMI and no Optical in either. Its a fairly old amp, but a nice piece of kit. AG-H300
