Im using the sound card that came with my asus maximus formula, and i have my HI-FI connected to the audio out on the top of my case (which is connected via a HD Audio cable to the sound card). The problem is that there is a constant background noise and im not sure what is causing it. Its not my HI-FI as the noise is only when im playing audio from the AUX input (my pc), and my pc isnt intentionaly generating the sound, as its not effected by altering my windows volume.

The best thing i can do so far is to make the sound quieter, by setting all programs and windows to play sound at the maximum, and turn down the sound on my HI-FI, as the increased sound on my pc doesnt make problem louder, but my hifi sound does make the problem quieter.

My guess is that it may be internal fans and such causing interfearence with the HD Audio cable going from the top of my case to the sound card, but I'm not sure.

I would connect my HI-FI directly to the sound card to test this, but i have no idea which socket to use, as the soundcard has surround sound outputs, but i only have a single cable to connect to my HI-FI using its AUX input, so am not sure which of the soundcard outputs to use.
