Giving what the advertise is clearly utter nonsense how the hell do they get away with it?

There's people on this forum that have spent over £100 on a USB cable for their DAC so still plenty of people that have more money than sense.

We've been here before, and we will be again.

Thread will go the same way as they all do, until it gets forgotten about and then someone else stumbles upon ridiculously overpriced cables, then creates a thread saying how ridiculously overpriced the cables are.

I bought one and heard a difference and shut my eyes so it wasn't placebo

If it doesn't work then why don't you prove it

If you can't hear a difference then clearly it's your ears/equipment

This product might be ridiculous but some of their other products are great

You can't criticise this product until you've heard it for yourself

And so on

It's amazing isn't it.
Unfortunately I won't be able to afford one for a while as I'm going to have to change all of the disks in my server http://www.enjoythemusic.com/hificritic/vol5_no3/listening_to_storage.htm

Oh wow.

That hint of glaze on QNAP1 also showed an impaired subjective noise floor elsewhere. In hi-fi parlance, QNAP2 had the blacker silences and deeper spaces between notes.

In our initial listening tests, I couldn't discern any tangible difference in sound between the two hard drives. Harris thought the Hitachi sounded very ethereal, almost out of phase, and rated it lowest; the Seagate was sharper with a more thumpy bass, slightly brighter with a slight tendency to sibilance.

In a quick personal ranking to date, covering all these tests, my notes put the Kingston SSD's sound quality first

I thought I only had to be embarrassed about my lack of heavily over clocked and water cooled computer, now I need to be concerned about the lack of musicality of my hard drives too..... its been a tough Monday

We have been here before, as I have on other forums. My question has always been how do they get away with it? Their claims/advertising is clearly complete bs. There is no argument to the contrary and yet they keep on producing these ridiculous products.

1) they "get away with it" because they can

2) because selling just one or two gives pretty massive returns on the investment for the manufacturer/distributor/reseller chain

3) what does it matter to you anyway. You're not going to buy one, so why worry?

Read the comments on el Reg yesterday. Very funny indeed.

Someone linked to a What Hi-Fi tumblr site, which was equally hilarious. Basically collating the more insane snippets from the mag/website. I can't link because the profile blurb contains a swear.

They don't make any specific, quantifiable claims. Hi-Fi gear never does, because it can't be backed up with evidence. Russ andrews did try making various implausible claims a few years back and got shot down by the ASA
