Audio recording software for mixes

I'm after some decent easy to use software for recording my mixes and ripping my vinyls to mp3. I also want to be able to use it to record live sets when I'm DJ'ing out and about.

My main problem is controlling the input volume from the mixer to try and stop the audio clipping and distorting. Is there any software out there with an easy preset input volume that will stop any distortion happening should it start to clip?

I'm currently using Goldwave and whilst simple and easy to use, there doesn't appear to be an input limit.

TIA :)

I've been using Goldwave already but hadn't found any options but will have another look. I've found a program now that auto sets the optimal recording level at the click of a button and it works brilliantly :D
