OK... I'm confused.

I'm looking at the Onkyo HTX-22HDX setup. It offers ARC. I've now read up on it and yet I'm still confused.

Can you please give me a real world example of where I would use this and what it does? Apparently you can ditch the toslink and just use HDMI both ways? I don't get it?

I've never used a toslink and an HDMI at the same time? All audio and video has always been processed via HDMI cable, TV into amp, amp into PS3... audio and video done by amp.

"s well as the Audio Return Channel feature, which means there really is no excuse for putting up with those awful flatpanel TV speakers."

Taken from an online review.

So what does this mean? Sorry for the what I'm guessing is a stupid question!

Basically, if your watching something on your TV's built-in tuner, it will feed the sound back through the single HDMI cable to your receiver.

So you wont need to use a separate audio output on your TV to hook up to an input terminal on your receiver, such as phono or optical.

I think I get it!

So, the HDMI cable that goes from the "out" on the amp to the TV. It uses that?

Pretty clever actually. I have no idea why I couldn't get it.

I hope I've got it?

Yup, I've got the previous model Onkyo, the 22HD, and it doesn't have ARC so I've got it connected to the TV via HDMI but also an optical cable so that I can listen to the TV through it.

Yup plenty loud enough :)

Only thing I could do with is a centre speaker for dialogue as occasionally it can be hard getting the volume level right.

You can get an additional package of speakers for it which gives you a centre and surround speakers.

Just checked online quickly, SKS22X seem to be around £80

I will probably end up getting them as well. I will also only use the centre. Room isn't positioned properly for 5.1 and if it's not done right, there's no point at all IMO. Rear left sounds coming from 5 feet left of the telly in front of you is just wrong in my book.

I'll see what it's like without the centre... then I'll probs end up picking up the package.
