Hi,

I am looking at getting a 4 channel amp and sub for my car. Thing is there are a few things that I am not sure on. I already have Alpine front componants but they are running off the HU, so I would amp them. I suppose after I have done that I want to turn the rear stock speakers off?

10" or 12" sub? I will be making a custom sealed box too for it if that changes anything. I listen to a large range of music going between rock, jazz, vocal etc.

Then I can get either of the below sub/amp deals with a 4 channel amp (4 channel version of each one) and in 10 or 12".

Infinity Deal
# Infinity RA-7521A 260W RMS amplifier (will be REF-7541A, 278W RMS)
# Infinity Reference 1040w 10" 1000W (250W RMS) subwoofer (or 1240w sub)
# 10" sub-box
# Autoleads PC4-27 wiring kit

JBL Deal
# JBL GTO1002D 10" 1000W subwoofer (or JBL GTO-1202D 1200W sub)
# JBL GTO-75.2 - 260W RMS (500W max approx) amplifier (will be GTO-75.4, 284RMS)
# 10" sub-box
# Autoleads PC4-20 wiring kit

One thing I noticed was that the Infinity Deal comes with 8AWG wiring kit whereas the JBL has 10AWG. Will that change things a lot?

Here are the prices of the deals.

Infinity 10" - £165 (RRP = £330)
Infitity 12" - £170 (RRP = £370)
JBL 10" - £140 (RRP = £320)
JBL 12" - £140 (RRP = £340)

I have a JBL amp and Infinity sub. This is my second Infinity sub as the first one got stolen. I was happy enough with it to buy another.
That said, I've not owned any other brands so have nothing to compare it to!

The difference between 10AWG and 8AWG is minimal and I doubt you'd notice a difference.

Any car audio shop, or online store (have to pay delivery that way though) or the auction site.

I've got the JBL 1202D sub and for the price it's chuffing good. You want to see if you can stretch to a different amp aswell, if you can get the 75.4 from jbl, normally around £99 and again it's excellent value for money. Also pop over to www.talkaudio.co.uk and have a chat with them, very good site and they'll be able to help you out a lot, infact if you don't mind building a box someone should be able to design you one to get a better sound than a generic box. :)

The 75.4 is the amp that the JBL Deal would have for £140. :)

Building a box does not bother me at all, quite handy at that sort of thing, plus I can get the supplies cheap that I need.

I think 10 AWG is a bit on the small side. Get 8 AWG or better still 4 AWG, then you can add to your system later without having to run another power cable to the boot.

and go for the Inifinity deal, JBL are rubbish in my experience.
