We've just bought a 50" Panasonic plasma!

But now we need some half decent speakers to go with it. Neither of us are audiophiles but would like some decent sound. We can get speakers at each corner of the livingroom so would like some kind of surround sound or something. Can you tell I have no idea??

Can anyone suggest a good setup for around £250-£450 including amp and all that?

I’m currently debating purchasing an LG HT902TB setup, demoed one at Richersounds and seems very good for the money :D

Just checked a few reviews out, looks perfect for us. Not too expensive, sound is good for the money etc. Just off the phone to Richer Sounds, going to go pick one up in a bit.

I can let you know how it is when i've got it all set up incase for some reason it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Cheers! :D

I'd try and buy seperates av amp + 5.1 speakers, rather than a HTIB. Latter usually aren't upgredable. £450 should be able to get you something.

Sure, but we are not into AV stuff massively - just want a decent speaker setup for watching films with. I think the LGs should be fine for us, don't want to spend out on stuff we wouldn't appreciate.

You don't need to spend a lot, what I'm saying is seperates has better I/O connectivity, which you might use later on. ie a HTIB might just have one digital input. You need two, so that means a optical switcher, so you have to use two remotes (or buy a universal remote with macros)

RS probably have av amps around your budget.

If you don’t would mind that would be great :D For £250 it is a no brainer really for what you get sure separates may sound better but find something that will out do this for £250 I’m sure you can’t.

I appreciate what you're saying badbob and I will probably end up getting annoyed at something with it and maybe even end up getting seperates in future but it was easy to buy and set up and since we don't watch too much telly they're great.

We ended up getting the Panasonic 50px70, Premier mount AM250 and the LG HT902TB. The sound from the new speakers is fantastic to my untrained ears. Im sure if I sat in the middle of a proper seperates setup and then immediatly sat in the LGs I would notice a big difference but ignorance is bliss and it sounds 100x better than our stereo tv speakers :D

all in all I'm so far impressed with the LGs, need to await the arrival of the Panny now to get the most from them then I can report back in more detail.
