hi all i have some Audio Technica ATH-M50,s and was wondering if these are any good for gaming i also plan on getting a asus xonar essence stx soundcard as i love my music would these be adequate they are by far the best headphone i have ever owned but also by far the most expensive feed back would be appreciated :)

Not really, the sound stage isn't really large enough. I'm sure they aren't terrible for gaming, but if you are buying them for gaming, then it would be a poor purchase in my opinion. Many full size headphones are going to offer a superior sound stage that will be much better for gaming. They excel at what they do best, music listening.

Edit:

Didn't read the OP properly, didn't realise he already has the M50. If you already have them, then use them for gaming. No point in spending another £100+ just to get headphones that will suit positional sound better; unless positional sound is that important it's worth spending another £100. That will depend on the user I guess.

I have a pair and i think they are pretty good for gaming. Maybe sound positioning isnt as good as some open back headphones but playing through bf3 with them was a pleasure because all the gunfire and explosions sounded fantastic.

better to be had for the same money like beyer dynamic dt770 / 990

most people swear by dt990 pro for gaming you gotta remember audio technica are much cheaper in the states they are overpriced here for no reason the m50 are good but not £120 + good
