Audio through hdmi ?

Good morning all i am trying to run audio from my gfx to my hd telly. i have connected the card to the spdif connector on my main board and still no sound through the tv, do i need additional driver or some such ??
 
You need to be using the motherboard's onboard audio and a HDMI cable.

Either HDMI to HDMI (not sure if a GTX 280 has one) or DVI to HDMI.
