Audio Volume VS Room Size

Maybe a bit of a crazy question...:o

Would you need to have the volume turned up higher to hear the same level of loudness,
if you changed from say a 12ftx8ft room to a 24ftx16ft room but still sat at the same distance from the speakers ??

Yes. I recently moved from a flat with a fairly small living room, to a house with a massive living room, and I've noticed that I have to turn the volume up a little higher on my AV receiver to get the same 'level' I was used to before.

Yea, I had some B&W 601 speakers hooked up to an old Technics amp and we took them to my brothers wedding reception to have a bit of background music during the meal, when the room was empty we tested it was working and I noticed I could really crank it, way beyond what I used at home for the same volume.
